CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Local Food Hub is celebrating farmers, businesses, and community partners for their commitment to quality local food.
The 2019 Community Food Awards ceremony was held Thursday night in Charlottesville. Organizers say it’s important to support the farming community, as well as agricultural heritage. Thursday’s honorees are being recognized for sourcing local food to build healthy communities.
“We believe that food tastes better and can oftentimes be more nutritious when it is sourced locally, and we believe that everyone should have access to that food, regardless of where they’re sourcing it, whether they’re shopping at the local retailer or eating at the local restaurant,” said Laura Brown of the Local Food Hub.
Thursday’s ceremony was followed by a community meal, featuring produce grown by Local Food Hub’s partner farms. The celebration wrapped up with a bonfire and live music.
