IN THE FAMILY for more than 250 years, Dickie Brothers Orchard is on Virginia’s “Century Farms” list. With over 100 acres of apples and 15 different varieties, they ultimately harvest about 70,000 bushels of apples a year! They have a wide variety of berries and fruits including Loring Peaches in late July. On the orchard, they also raise beef cattle, have Saddlebred horses, and various colors of Labrador Retrievers running around. Dickie Bros. operates an on-site farm store that carries various fresh fruits from the orchard as well as crafts and novelties from local artists. They put hard work into stocking their shelves with high quality fresh apple cider, apple butter, and applesauce made from the apples right on the farm. Nestled against the eastern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Appalachian Mountains, the cool mountain air gives their apples great color and excellent flavor. The view from their orchard is the envy of almost anywhere in the United States, especially when the fall foliage is in full color and the apples are fresh on the tree.
