Owner Allie Hill saw a need among Virginia farmers to take advantage of their agricultural products and extend the seasonal availability of local food. She upgraded an existing home cannery in Farmville, VA, to meet the needs of growers looking to process foods for public sale, such as jams, jellies, sauces, and more. This included making some equipment upgrades and obtaining approval and certifications from the Department of Health. The cannery also created new jobs in the area as it requires several staff to operate.

Local Food Hub is excited to carry several Homegrown Virginia products, including applesauce and pepper jelly. We look forward to expanding our partnership to offer even more shelf-stable, Virginia-grown items in the near future.

In 2016, Homegrown Virginia was awarded our Local Business, Community Impact Award during our annual Community Food Award celebration. The award honors a local business that effectively and creatively increases access to local food, and was presented by Payne, Ross, and Associates. Read more about all of our award winners here.
