Local Food Hub began working with Superfood Farm, a 19-acre farm in Culpeper, VA, in spring of 2018. Superfood Farm is the farm of the Ayad family, who lived and farmed in a rural community in Egypt before emigrating to the United States.
Superfood Farm is dedicated to maintaining the natural ecology of the land. The Ayads are working toward USDA Organic Certification, and they practice organic crop cultivation, use natural pesticides, and are actively enhancing their soil composition. The farm is GAP-certified (Good Agricultural Practices). The Ayads grow a large variety of produce, including 30 different tomato crops, cabbage, lettuces, spring onions, squash, cucumber, eggplant, kale, purple cauliflower, watermelon, celery, and herbs.
