After searching far and wide (locally) for a corn tortilla that met all of their familie’s needs and coming up empty handed, Stephanie Murray and James Price founded Ula Tortilla. Their tortillas are the only local tortillas made fresh using certified organic, non gmo corn.
They use an ancient process called nixtamalization to produce the most nutritious and delicious tortillas around. This process involves cooking and soaking their corn in a solution of lime (calcium hydroxide) and water overnight. After rinsing, they grind the corn in their stone grinder which produces masa, the dough with which they make their tortillas.
